The school has a chicken area complete with four chickens. Our very friendly Bantam cockerel, Brad unfortunately died and has gone to Rainbow Bridge*. He was very particular at looking after our girls and he will be missed. His picture will remain a little while longer to enjoy and remember his cheeky charm.
Each class has a designated week of caring for the chickens which is repeated on a cycle throughout the year. During this week the designated class are responsible for the chickens well being, providing fresh water and food, cleaning and collecting the eggs. The eggs are then used throughout the school. At the weekend and during the holidays there is is a willing supply of parent helpers who come along and volunteer with their children. Please speak to Mrs Kniveton if you are interested in helping out.
The Rainbow Bridge is the theme of a work of poetic prose written some time between 1980 and 1992, whose original creator is unknown. The theme is of an other-worldly place to which a pet goes upon its death, eventually to be reunited with its owner. It has gained popularity amongst animal lovers who have lost a pet. The belief has similarities to the Bifröst bridge of Norse mythology.
